Q1: What is G Scale 3D Printing?
G Scale 3D printing is the construction of a three-dimensional object in G Scale from CAD models or digital 3D model. It can be done in a variety of processes in which material is deposited, joined or solidified under computer control with the material being added together layer by layer on a printing plate.
Q2: How did we get started?
Over time, outdoor garden buildings and structures naturally wear down, and finding replacement parts can be a challenge. Additionally, the selection of available structures and buildings for G Scale is quite limited.
We started this business to offer replacement parts that closely resemble the originals, ensuring a great match. Additionally, we create new models that can be personalized, allowing enthusiasts to customize and expand their collections.
Q3: Do any of our models, parts or designs infringe on any copyrights?
All our models, parts, and designs are 100% custom-made, ensuring originality and full compliance with copyright laws.
Q4: Can I design my own custom building?
Items can be custom-made based on your designs or even photos, as long as they don't infringe on any copyrights. We charge a per hour fee for creation or conversion, in addition to printing and shipping costs.
Q5: What scale is being used?
We typically use a 1:24 scale in our models to accommodate most garden railroads. However, we can also create models for G-Scale buildings using other scales if needed.
Q6: How expensive are the models and parts?
Pricing varies from $ to $$$$.
Pricing is dependent on:
Design/Conversion Time
Materials Used
Print Complexity
Shipping
Q7: What is 'print complexity'?
Print Complexity is the actual 3D printing and is dependent on several factors:
Number of plates (printed plates)
Amount of detail
Number of colors per plate
Q8: How many colors can I have per print plate?
Currently, each print plate can accommodate up to four colors (e.g., windows with ‘frosted glass’ and frames, which would count as two colors).
Q9: Can the parts and models be used outdoors?
We primarily use ASA filament for our builds, as it produces parts that are ideal for outdoor projects requiring weather resistance. For special colors, we may also use ABS or PETG.
Q10: Is PLA used for any of the prints?
No. Polylactic Acid (PLA) filament is primarily used for projects that don’t need to withstand outdoor conditions.
Q11: How are items assembled?
Our models are typically shipped unassembled, but assembly is straightforward even without instructions. For best results, we recommend using Loctite Super Glue Liquid Professional, Clear Superglue. If you prefer, we can also ship assembled models, though this may increase shipping costs due to size and packing materials.
Q12: Are replacement parts identical to original cast parts from commercially available models?
We strive to make our replacement parts as close as possible to the original components. However, please note that the replacement parts may not have the same level of detail or exact colors as the cast originals.
Q13: Are there any guarantees?
We can guarantee that all parts and structures delivered are free from defects.
Q14: Is Personalization signage available?
Custom lettering and signage are available for all designs.
Q15: Are all parts used in a design 100% custom made?
Some specialized parts, such as LED lights or solar panels, are not custom-made but may be included depending on the design and requirements.
Q16: What about G-Scale people?
We can create G-Scale figures; however, they may be more expensive than commercially available options. Please note that when we do produce G-Scale figures, some parts may be hand-painted.
Q17: How long does it take to get an order?
Lead times can vary since all items are custom-made. Small parts may ship within a few days, while larger parts, buildings, and structures may take more than two weeks. We will provide estimated timelines before processing any order.
Q18: Is shipping free?
Unfortunately, we cannot offer free shipping. However, we use the lowest-cost shipping method (usually US Mail) and can combine items in an order. We will only charge for shipping materials and actual shipping costs based on size and weight to your location.
Q19: Do doors and windows operate
We can make doors and windows operational; however, this will increase the cost accordingly. For outdoor models, we’ve found that operational doors and windows can be problematic due to wind and weather conditions.
